• Always carry a cell phone with you and keep it on when entering or exiting shopping areas, especially when shopping alone.
• Program 9-1-1 and other emergency numbers on speed dial to quickly reach emergency personnel.
• If shopping at night, go with a friend and park in a well-lit area.
• Pre-program I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) numbers into the contacts section of your phone. Emergency officials often seek the number of your closest contact in an emergency.
• Do not overload yourself with packages. This not only makes you a potential target for theft, but also limits your visibility and freedom of motion. Instead, make several trips back to your vehicle and conceal packages in the trunk or cover them with a blanket.
