Occam Networks’ MSAP Solutions Enable Polar Communications to Bring Advanced Voice, Data, Video Services to North Dakota Homes a
Rural Consumers and Local Businesses Receive Gigabit Ethernet Service
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – November 9,2009 –Occam Networks®,Inc. (Nasdaq: OCNW), a leading broadband access supplier offering MSAPsolutions based on pure packet technologies announced today that, as a resultof increased demand for voice, high-speed data and video services in NorthDakota and portions of Minnesota, Polar Communications will immediately begindeploying a full FTTH network using the Occam Networks platform.
As serviceand operational requirements increased over the past six years, Polar realizedthat the company’s long term FTTN strategy would be unable to keep up withfuture demand. The solution was a shift to a FTTP strategy that began two yearsago and will continue with the current Occam deployment. To accommodate theexpected growth in last mile traffic, Polar is also deploying Occam’s resilient10 Gigabit Ethernet aggregation solution.
Because DSLcontinues to play an important role in Polar’s broadband network, they will useOccam’s BLC 6000 MSAP and the platform’s common OS to simplify the hybridcopper, FTTP and 10 Gigabit aggregation network.
“Our longterm strategy is to continue a steady FTTH build, and when we are finished, goback and replace our original FTTN infrastructure by extending fiber to thehome,” said David Dunning, General Manager and CEO of Polar Communications. “Furthermore,we have already purchased Occam equipment to upgrade two larger exchanges toGPON next year. We plan to offer atriple play services to our subscribers and Occam access equipment is acritical part of that strategy.”
“Entertainmentservices such as IPTV, video on demand and streaming media are driving upgradestrategies for service providers such as Polar,” said Juan Vela, Director,Marketing and Strategy at Occam Networks. “Consumers can enjoy a wide range ofcommunication and entertainment services while service providers achieve rapidreturns on their broadband investments as they transition to FTTP with Occam’ssolutions.”
