Mayo honored for treatment and prevention excellence
To qualify, West Coast hospitals needed to achieve 90 percent compliance

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Mayo Clinic was recently recognized for exceeding national performance standards with two VHA West Coast Leadership Awards. The staff at Mayo Clinic was honored for excellence in heart attack treatment and the prevention of surgical infection.
Each year, VHA, a national health care alliance, recognizes high-performing hospitals with Leadership Awards for clinical excellence. To qualify for the awards, hospitals must achieve at least 90 percent compliance with stringent standards guidelines.
"These prestigious awards pay tribute to the hard work of the entire Mayo team," said Victor F. Trastek, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona. "They reflect a commitment to providing the highest quality care to the patients we serve."
VHA honors hospital programs in several clinical categories. Mayo Clinic received awards for:
Performance Excellence for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction
High Reliability for surgical infection prevention care
The Mayo Clinic programs were honored at an awards presentation at VHA's West Coast Fall Summit on Nov. 13 in Newport Beach, Calif.
