First-time entry in Germany’s “who’s who” of “Brands of the Century”

Frankfurt am Main / Ennepetal. At the launch of the latest edition of the German bible of “Brands of the Century”, Helge Wego, Head of Corporate Communications at door system manufacturer DORMA, received the German Standards Branding Award from publisher Dr. Florian Langenscheidt. For the first time, DORMA was chosen by an eight-member jury of experts under the chairmanship of Bernd Michael, President of the German Marketing Association, as one of the award-winning brands of the century. Among the celebrity names on the jury were Jean-Remy von Matt, Professor Heribert Meffert, Manfred Schüller and Christoph Berdi. The primary criteria for selection were quality, tradition, innovative strength and an exemplary track record in setting industry standards.


The launch and awards ceremony was attended by more than 200 guests, invited to Frankfurt am Main by publisher Dr. Florian Langenscheidt. The fully revised and expanded 16th edition of “Brands of the Century” – always a best-seller in its category – offers a comprehensive compendium of the very best German products and services. From Adidas through DORMA and on to Zeiss, readers will find every brand that has contributed to the excellence embodied in the phrase “Made in Germany”. In all, the book features 281 such marques, with online brands also included for the fist time.


The book has also been published in two special editions in English and Chinese. And copies of these are to be distributed among visitors to the German pavilion at the FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa and also at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. “Our intention is to act as ambassadors of German industry. With this publication, we will be able to impress the international guests attending these events with compelling evidence of the outstanding achievements of which German industry is capable,” enthused Langenscheidt.
